Chemical Properties

Quartz glass is an acidic material that is inert to all acids except hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid. It offers excellent acid resistance with superior chemical stability compared to opaque quartz glass, and is non-hygroscopic and non-weathering.

Electrical Properties

Quartz glass provides high dielectric strength and low conductivity, maintaining excellent dielectric properties even at high temperatures, pressures, and frequencies. With minimal dielectric loss across applied frequency bands, it serves as an outstanding high-temperature dielectric insulation material.

Optical Performance

Quartz glass features unique optical properties, transmitting both far-ultraviolet spectrum (making it ideal for UV-transmitting applications) and visible light with near-infrared spectrum. It offers high temperature resistance, minimal thermal expansion, excellent chemical thermal stability, and optical quality comparable to standard optical glass with minimal bubbles, streaks, uniformity issues, and birefringence.

Thermal Properties

The thermal expansion coefficient of quartz glass is exceptionally small—only 1/12 to 1/20 that of ordinary glass. Standard testing involves heating specimens to 1200°C then rapidly quenching in cold water, withstanding this cycle more than three times without cracking.

Mechanical Properties

Quartz glass offers better mechanical properties than conventional glass and ceramics, though it maintains some brittleness. While theoretical strength calculations reach approximately 24×1.3 MPa, actual measured strength values are typically several tens of times lower.

Airtight Performance

The relaxed structure of quartz allows certain gas ions to diffuse through the network even at high temperatures, with sodium ion diffusion occurring particularly rapidly. This characteristic is especially important for specific user applications.
